The Book of Form and Emptiness
After his father’s sudden death, Benny Oh, a fourteen-year-old boy, begins to hear the voices of objects around him—whispers from books, murmurs from bottles, and chatter from everyday things. Overwhelmed by these sounds, Benny struggles to understand what is real and what isn’t.
His mother, Annabelle, copes with grief in her own way, filling their home with belongings as her life becomes more chaotic. Seeking refuge, Benny spends time at the public library, where he meets unusual characters who help him navigate his inner world—including a rebellious young poet and the Book itself, which narrates part of his story.
As Benny learns to listen more carefully, he begins to understand the meaning of loss, connection, and the voices—both literal and emotional—that shape his life.
